How do you recover if the controller has a corrupted PAC file?
It is possible that the controller database file ("controller.pac") may become corrupted or you may inadvertently set a value that locks you out of the system. For example, you may set an incorrect IP address or password or baud rate for the serial line. In these cases, the controller will start in the normal fashion and output the standard system identification information, but will not permit motion programs to be executed and you may not be able to communicate with the system.
As an aid in recovering from these types of problems, GPL includes a built-in copy of the controller database file, controller.pac, that contains good values for all of the key system parameters.
If you wish to restart the system with the built-in version of controller.pac, during the booting sequence, you must assert the “Software Reset” signal. This signal is normally controlled by as "Selector Switch" on the MCIM board. Please consult the hardware section of the help files for information on the specific location of this switch on your controller.
If the Software Reset signal is asserted during booting or if GPL is unable to open controller.pac from the flash disk, GPL loads the built-in copy of controller.pac in place of the flash disk version of controller.pac. GPL loads the other parameter database files as usual. Once the system has restarted, you should correct your problem and install a new copy of the database files. Please note that if you save the parameter database using values from the built-in copy of controller.pac, any values you formerly saved in the flash version of controller.pac will be over-written. If you discover a corrupted parameter file, the recommended procedure is to use the web interface to reinstall a backup, *.sav, set of parameter database files. Please see the documentation on the web interface for instructions on this procedure.
