How do you upgrade the system software or FPGA code?

The following procedure can be utilized to upgrade your system software or FPGA code so long as your current version of GPL and its web interface is functional.

  1. Start up GPL on your Guidance controller.
  2. Connect to the controller using a web browser and login.
  3. Click on the tab labeled “Utilities”.
  4. Click on the words “System Upgrade” in the left-hand panel.
  5. Click the button “Open ROMDISK/bin” to open a FTP window.
  6. Drag the system or FPGA file (e.g. “gpl-mids-050815.bin”) to the FTP window and wait while the file is copied to the RAM on the Precise controller.  Note, these files must be transferred in FTP binary mode.  Drag-and-drop automatically detects the file type and performs the correct type of transfer.
  7. Close the FTP window and return to the "System Upgrade" panel.
  8. Click the "Select" button in the "System Upgrade" panel.
  9. Click on the name of the file you just copied via FTP and click "Select".
  10. Click either the Update "FPGA" or "GPL” button. This copies the software from RAM to flash and permanently saves the file. It may take a while.

Do not power off or otherwise use the system during this time.  Doing so may leave your system corrupted.

  1. After the copy operation is completed, wait at least 10 seconds before powering off the controller.
  2. Restart the controller to activate the new software.

If you wish to verify that you are now running the new software, do the following:

  1. Connect to the controller using a web browser and login.
  2. Click on the tab labeled "Control Panels"
  3. Click on the words "System Information" in the left-hand panel.
  4. Click on the words "System ID" in the left-hand panel.
  5. Verify that the "Software Version" and "FPGA Code Version" are what you expect.
