As a software development aid, remote digital IO signals may be simulated when the actual IO hardware is not present. If a slave servo board, a RIO module, MODBUS/TCP device or EtherNet/IP device is missing or not active, the IO points associated with that device are normally not installed and cannot be accessed. Software that references these signals fails with an error.
To avoid this situation, blocks of IO signals may be configured as simulated, so that they behave like soft I/O signals that can be read or written by any GPL program, without affecting any external hardware.
To enable software IO simulation, use DataID 579, "I/O simulation map: count, signal".
