Introduction to System Utilities

The system utilities are a collection of functions that assist you in maintaining the operation of your system and diagnosing problems and inefficiencies.  These functions are built into the controller to provide convenient access and tight integration with the other subsystems of the controller.  In some cases, the operation of these functions can be augmented by a PC based application program.  These PC applications provide enhanced viewing options, additional ease-of-use benefits, and advanced features.  Please see the PC based Help for more information on these PC applications

Backup and Restore

This panel provides the user with methods for backing up and restoring critical files and configuration information on the controller. There is also an optional PC based utility. If the PC utility is installed, it will be automatically launched to enhance the backup and restore facility.

Data logger

The system Datalogger provides a uniform method for automatically logging a series of values at regular intervals over a period of time.  Virtually any of the key system parameters and variables can be sampled by this method. This facility is typically used to fine tune the performance of the servo subsystem or to capture data to assist in diagnosing programming and timing issues.

The Data logger operates by reading values from the Parameter Database.  This database includes static values such as joint stop limits but, more importantly, dynamic values such as the position and velocity of motors.

Up to 12 values can be simultaneously sampled.  The sampling rate can be as fast as 8 times per millisecond or as slowly as you wish.  The total number of samples that can be stored is a function of the number of values stored per sample and the size of the Data logger sample buffer.
