Web Development Resources and Notes

During the course of developing the controller's standard web pages, we made use of or tried a number of software packages that are generally available.

As a convenience, the following table lists a number of these resources. We are providing this list as a convenience to our customers and we are neither recommending nor endorsing these packages. If you decide to try any of these packages, please DO NOT SEND QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR USE to our support personnel since we cannot provide assistance with any of these 3rd party products.

Resource	Description
Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver	This is a very popular web development package. The majority of our web pages have been developed using this product. It provides very good support for the development of standard HTML pages and marginal support for JavaScripts and ASP pages.
www.web-buttons.com	Inexpensive product for generating roll-over buttons and menu tabs.
www.treeview.net	JavaScript that implements a tree menu control that permits navigation to web pages or subpanels to be easily implemented.
www.walterzorn.com	Provides JavaScript libraries for drawing graphics on a web page.

DEVELOPMENT NOTES

When using Safari 5.1.7, there are instances when output to the browser is transmitted properly by the web server, but not received by the browser. This was encountered when developing the Remote Procedure Call capability. One sample remote procedure returned a string that was terminated with a single line-feed (LF) character. The output from the RPC was properly received by Internet Explorer and Chrome, but no result was obtained in Safari. To work around this bug in Safari, an extra LF was added at the end of the message.
