System Data Logger

The system includes an integrated Data Logger that permits up to 12 Parameter Database values to be simultaneously recorded. The recording interval is adjustable and can be set as fast as 8 kHz. The number of recording intervals that can be captured is limited by the amount of memory available for the data collection buffer. The memory required depends on the number of database values being collected, the recording interval, and the recording time.

The Data Logger provides a number of different methods for triggering the start of the data collection. The trigger can occur instantly or automatically when a database value is less than, greater than, equal to, or not equal to another database value or a fixed constant. For example, you can trigger when a specified digital input signal changes value, when a motor speed value exceeds a certain threshold, or when one joint position exceeds the value of another joint position.

Since a trigger condition often occurs after the event of interest has transpired, data collection actually begins as soon as the trigger condition is primed. So, when you setup the data collection, you can specify how much data you want to preserve just prior to the trigger event as well as how much data after the trigger event.

After the data collection has been completed, the Data Logger results can be transferred back to a PC via the web interface. The Data Logger output is a simple comma delimited, ASCII formatted file. The file format has been designed to allow the file to be easily imported into Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications. As a convenience, we also provide a Data Logger Viewer application that can be run on most Windows OS systems. When a Data Logger file is read via the web interface, the Data Logger Viewer can be automatically triggered to display the collected results. The Data Logger Viewer is available as part of the Guidance Development Suite.

For more information on the operation of the Data Logger and the Data Logger Viewer, please see the section on the web interface and the Guidance Development Suite documentation.
