What are the different types of disk files utilized in the controller?

The Guidance Controller makes use of a number of different types of disk files for storing key information, e.g. configuration data, GPL programs, system software, etc.  The following table lists the file types, their general usage, and links to the documentation sections that contain more information.

File Type Description For More Information

gpl_*.bin, fpga_*.bin

These files contain the binary, executable motion control and operating system software (gpl_*.bin) and the binary programming for the main FPGA chip (fpga_*.bin).  This software can be easily changed in the field if you wish to upgrade to new versions of the system software. These files are stored is dedicated sections of the flash.

FAQ: How do you upgrade the system software or FPGA code?

*.pac, *.ppc, *.sav

These files store the configuration data for the system, e.g. controller name, joint limit stops, nominal joint speeds, motor-to-encoder scale factors, calibration data, etc. The files with a "pac" or "ppc" extensions are the primary configuration files.  The "ppc" are encrypted (protected) versions of the "pac" file that are used to prevent key parameters from being modified. The files with a "sav" extension are a backup set of files that can be manually created.  All of these files are stored in the /config/ folder of the flash disk.

Configuration and Parameter Database Flash Disk Files

*.gpl, *.gpr, *.gpo

These are the source code files for a GPL Project.  They define GPL procedures, GPL global position and performance data, and GPL Project informaion.  These files are stored in the /projects/ folder of the flash disk.
